When I was a child, I was really fascinated by my father fishing tackle box. It appeared to me that he had the most magnificent and varied fishing supplies imaginable. He could trick any fish there was with his fishing tackle, or so I thought. He had a lot of flies and lures, most of them hand-tied and custom created by him. No one bought their own fishing supply equipment in those days, except for the basics like fishing line. If you were a good fisherman, you made your own. It wasn’t just a matter of quality, but of pride.
It appears like, with the rapid advance of fishing equipments, a lot of the sport has been taken out of it these days. I spent some time on a fishing trip with a good friend of mine, a fairly wealthy individual who owns his own motor yacht. He actually has a weather radar gear, a GPS fishfinder, and a lot of sort of sophisticated equipment to find the schools of fish. With him, finding fish is not an art anymore. t is not a matter of instincts, of sport or luck. It is just a matter of cold hard science - following the instructions and letting the technology do that work. For me, this is taking all the fun out of it.

Bass Fishing Tips Can Make a Difference
For a beginner, bass fishing tips truly make a difference. Some knowledge on the specificity of the bass species would be great, as these fish have a metabolism closely related to water temperature. Their metabolism becomes higher proportionally as the temperature gets higher. When in cold deeper waters, they are lethargy and need to eat less.
Moreover, around January those interested in bass fishing start to be directed towards warm waters as bass tend to leave cold deep waters for environments more favorable to spawning. Also, this migration takes place the other way round in autumn, when the bass prepare for winter in cold deep waters. Yet fishermen should not expect them to cover distances very fast. The migration cycles from one place to another follow the seasons and last for several months.
another tip for bass fishing is that these animals are social ones. Similar sized marine fish will tend to gather in schools. Therefore, if you have already caught some bass, you are likely to catch more in the same area as long as you do not throw the dead caught fish in the water to panic the rest of the school.

Key West Tarpon Fishing
The tarpon is one of the world’s leading sporting fish. Stunningly beautiful and known as the Silver King, their aerobatic antics make them a favourite of anglers worldwide. Each spring thousands of tarpon travel through the harbour in Key West on their way to their breeding areas and fishermen are drawn into town for the chance to do battle with them.
There are many different methods for catching tarpon, the method changing depending on the type of water that is being fished. Tarpon can be found on sand or mangrove flats and also in shallow river inlets. In this case the preferred method is either fishing a fly coupled to a very strong rod and line or using an artificial lure. At other venues such as Islamorada the preferred method is livebaiting with small fish such as pilchards or herring. The preferred fishing style in Key West is using a by-product from shrimp fishing. Let me explain what we mean by shrimp boat trash. Many shrimp fishing boats ply the waters in the Gulf of Mexico and apart from catching shrimp they also catch a lot of small fish called menhaden. These are bagged up in onion sacks and sold as bait to the tarpon fishing boats in Key West.
The method involves the Captain cutting these small fish into small pieces and continually throwing them behind the anchored boat to attract the tarpon. The anglers fish with a whole menhaden on the hook, and it is drifted back in the current down to the feeding tarpon.Eagle Claw Fishing Hook

Fishing in the Florida Keys
The Florida Keys stretch some 100 miles out into the ocean and have water on all sides and there’s fish everywhere. Keys such as Islamorada have built an enviable reputation for world-class sport but for many years now Key West has held the reputation of being simply the best sport fishing location in North America simply for the huge selection of species swimming around the island. Fishing in Key West attracts anglers from around the world and for very good reasons.
The inshore fishing around Key West includes fishing for tarpon, permit or sharks, the reef offers snapper and grouper and offshore there’s a whole host of species including dolphin, sailfish, wahoo, kingfish, tuna and cobia. With such a variety of species and with water on all sides you’ll be hard pressed to find an excuse for a bad day’s fishing whatever the weather gods can throw at you.
Although there are a number of offshore boats working out of Key West, our first love is light tackle fishing. If you’re not a keen angler you will be asking what we are referring to, so let’s start with a quick explanation. The offshore boats tend to be bigger with a more luxurious setup such as a large air conditioned lounge bunks and showers. They motor around the ocean towing a variety of baits behind the boat and once a fish is hooked the lucky angler sits in the fighting chair to bring the hooked fish to the boat. A light tackle boat is somewhat smaller, normally around 26 – 30 ft long, with no accomodation and an open deck. Typically powered by twin outboards, they roar around at impressive speeds which allows them to reach fishing spots many miles from the harbor at Key West. Each person on the boat is armed with a rod and reel, and when a fish bites it is up to the angler to strike and reel in the fish unaided. The offshore captains tend to fish in water at least 200 feet deep whereas the light tackle boats are at home operating in water anything between 20 feet deep for tarpon around the harbor to 200 ft deep offshore whilst fishing for dolphin, wahoo or sailfish.Eagle Claw Fishing Hook

Mepps - Walleye Lure Kit
Mepps - Walleye Lure Kit
Product Description:
World-class walleye fishermen have long known the benefits of fishing with Mepps spinners and spoons. Walleye, by nature, are night feeders but don’t be lulled into thinking this is the only time to fish them. Water color has a definite effect on the feeding habits of the walleye. Many lakes are dark water lakes. High noon is a good time to fish for walleyes in these waters. When fishing from a boat, anchor on either side of a channel and cast into it. Walleyes are basically bottom feeders, but don’t ignore those fish that suspend over drop-offs in deep lakes. Some of the best summer walleye fishing is provided by suspended fish. Walleyes are a schooling fish and can move in at any time. All of the lures in this kit feature solid brass bodies and blades. Silver blades are silver plated. SpinFlex feature a chip-resistant powder coated solid brass head. Beads are hand-turned on a lathe to resist chipping and cracking. Flexible vinyl decals are silk screened with UV inks to resist fading. The Black Fury features natural squirrel tail dressing. Mepps unsurpassed quality throughout. Mepps Walleye Kit contains the following: 1 ea. Mepps 1/4 oz. SpinFlex - chartreuse head/hot firetiger blade 1 ea. Mepps #3 Aglia Long - gold blade 1 ea. Mepps #3 Comet Mino - silver blade 1 ea. My Favorite Bass Fishing Podcasts
Bass fishing related podcasts are becoming increasingly popular, wether anglers are downloading them to ipods, other MP3 player or just listening on their home or work computers, its an increasingly popular way for anglers to learn more about bass fishing and their favorite anglers
So in no particular order, here are the podcasts I like to listen to, take a listen and see what you think.
Armchair Anglers - Bo Crawford (you may have read some of his stuff on BassFan.com) and Clint do a great job, covering tournament bass fishing and other hard hitting topics like the Gulf oil Spill. My only complaint is I only get one new episode a month.

Baitcasting Reels - Round and Low Profile Baitcast Reels
Baitcasting Reels - Round and Low Profile Baitcast Reels
Baitcasting reels (also known as baitcaster reels, casting or overhead reels) are reels with a revolving spool that sit on top of a casting rod. These baitcast reels are used for casting bait or lures with precision. The main characteristic of a baitcasting reel used for bait casting, is that they are mounted above the fishing rod, where the fishing line is stored on a bearing-supported revolving spool. Baitcasting reels are also known as overhead reels or a baitcast reel. They are typically made out of two materials: graphite or aluminum. Graphite baitcasting reels are lighter in weight and more
reasonably priced as compared to an aluminum baitcaster reel. But aluminum reels are more preferred because they are more stable and rigid, allowing the fisherman to cast a reel that is properly aligned.
Good baitcasting reels are easy to handle and move smoothly. Baitcasting gears consist of brass and steel pinion gears. Another material used for the gears is a lightweight yet sturdy material called Duralumin. Another hallmark of a high quality baitcasting reel is that it has high-quality bearings made from shielded, double-shielded or sealed bearings. Aluminum spools, a smooth drag, forged handles, and titanium lines are other key components in a baitcasting reel to look out for.
You will also find that there are two main types of baitcasting reels in the market. Round baitcaster reels feature larger spools and can hold more line. Low-profile reels on the other hand are more ergonomic and easy to handle. So the type of baitcaster reel you will use will ultimately be determined by the type of fish you want to reel in. For example, if you are into bass fishing, you will not need much line in your reel, so a low-profile reel will work well for you. If you are out to hook Steelheads, Muskie, Pike or Salmon, you will need more line in your reel, so a round reel will be necessary.

Bluegill Fishing Spoons
Bluegill Fishing Spoons
Lindy's Rattl'n Flyer Spoon is one of the hottest vertical jigging spoons on the market, and for good reason. Its erratic action, gliding fall, premium finish and fish-catching powers have proven themselves for bluegills and other fish species across the continent.
Thanks to its trademark wings, the Rattl'n Flyer Spoon has an erratic action on the lift, and glides off to the side on the drop-accomplishing two things: fishing a wider swathe of water, and mimicking an injured baitfish. The spoon's built-in brass rattle adds to the attraction, as do Bleeding Bait round-bend treble hooks, a holographic/foil finish with lifelike scale pattern, and irresistible Techni-Glo eyes. Non-lead alloy construction gives the Rattl'n Flyer Spoon perfect weight balance, and there's no need to use a swivel because this spoon doesn't spin on the drop. Available in four sizes and six color patterns.

Sauger Fishing Lures
Sauger Fishing Lures
The Sauger (Stizostedion Canadensis) is a freshwater perciform fish of the family Percidae which resembles its close relative the walleye and is sometimes called the "sand pike". Saugers, however, are usually smaller and will tolerate waters of higher turbidity than will the walleye. In many parts of their range, saugers are sympatric with walleyes. They may be distinguished from walleyes by the distinctly spotted dorsal fin, (sauger has spots on in this dorsal fin and the walleye doesn't) by the lack of a white splotch on the caudal fin, by the rough skin over their gill, and by their generally more brassy color, or darker almost black color in some regions. The average sauger in an angler's creel is 0.75 to 1 lbs in weight but the world record was 17 lbs, 12 ounces. Saugers are more typical of rivers whereas walleyes are more common in lakes and reservoirs. The sauger is highly prized as a food fish.
Hybridization between saugers and walleyes is not unknown; the hybrids, referred to as saugeyes, exhibit traits of both species. Being intermediate in appearance between the two species, saugeyes are sometimes difficult to differentiate, but they generally carry the dark blotches characteristic of the sauger.

Surf Fishing Bait
Surf fishing bait come in many different forms. There's a wide variety, and recommending only one type over another is hard to do. Based on the type of fish you're looking to catch, you'll want to choose different surf fishing bait. The question is...will you buy your bait or catch your own?
When it comes to surf fishing bait, they can usually weigh from ¼ to an ounce to three ounces. The most popular weight preferred by the majority of bait casters is the 5/8-ounce bait, while the average is between ½ and 3 quarters of an ounce. You can choose to cut your fishing bait, or use it in it's entirety. You'll also decide if you want to use live or dead surf fishing bait.

I'm a fishing tackle junkie. When I wander around in a well-stocked tackle shop, a rig or lure will catch my eye, and I'll buy it. I can't help it.
Recently I noticed something about my tackle inventory. Most of those flashy, "guaranteed to catch" lures that captured my interest are still in their original boxes. They have never been used, and I was the only thing they caught.
But the scars of battle mark several lures in my tackle bag. The paint is chipped, they are covered with tooth marks, and many of the hook's barbs are crimped flat. These lures have been used often, and they caught fish.
The author's selection of "go to" lures in the surf. (Joe Malat photo)
There is nothing scientific to support this theory, but I'll bet if an informal poll was conducted among experienced Outer Banks surfcasters, a majority would admit they use the same few lures on a regular basis; not necessarily because they look pretty, but because they catch fish.

Mid-December Bass Fishing Potpourri
Mid-December Bass Fishing Potpourri, I realized I am running out of time to put together a big long list of posts for Gift Ideas for the Bass Fishing Maniacs out there like I have in the past. I hope to get out and do some smallmouth fishing this Friday if weather cooperates. So let's get started, I got some fun stuff of mine that I am selling on ebay, reels, tackle, line, tournament shirt, etc.
Also check out the nice sale at Akinetix.com right now, they got some great choices of affordable polarized sunglasses that are very good quality, and some great moisture wicking gear for all seasons of fishing.
Tru-Tungsten 5" Tru-Life Shad Swimbaits have finally hit the shelves, these look to be a great balance of big fish potential and still catching good numbers, I will have a handful of these bad boys for spring, Fo Sho! Also check out the new TT Flea Flicker for all your wacky worm jigging needs!

Tough Fall Fishing
Wow, I fished a small club derby yesterday on Pelican Lake out west of the cities, in which 11 anglers did not register a single bass. This morning I decided to give Lake Marion a whirl for 2 hours before the Vikes game, got one northern on a Black & Blue Pure Poison chatter style bait. I found some bluegills hanging around some old coontail clumps on a steep bank, that is where the northern came, but I could not find a bass to cooperate.
Brutal Day of Fishing
At some point before I went fishing, I had convinced myself it would be a good idea to fish in frigid temperatures on Mississippi River Pool 2 with buddy John Haynes. I have been out on Pool 2 five times this year, two of those times were my two worst days of fishing. The first time was a skunk and this time I managed one tiny largemouth on a Scrounger Headed Fluke and Haynes got a White Bass on a DT4. Tough for 5 plus hours of fishing. Thankfully the other 3 trips were pretty good!
Oh well, the Vikes steamrolled the Rams, did not miss much there. I can now feel my fingers again, I do have a tournament on the 24th, who knows that the weather will do for that tourney....

And, luckily there have been millions upon millions of pieces of tackle lures handcrafted and made since the early fishing days so there is still plentiful supply of nice examples to go around.
Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Lake Guntersville
Guntersville is one of the all time bass factories that Bassmasters stops at. This time of year, there are a lot of different bites going on. A few fish are still moving up, so staging and sight fish can probably be a part of someone's bags, but most of the fish are wadding up in post spawn areas or looking to gorge on the shad spawn bite that should be in full swing.
There are lot of local Alabama anglers and most of them are very good hooks, so take a loot at some of these guys to fill your roster out. By the way, you need to get it in by tomorrow 8am central. Feel free to peruse the Pundit Picks from ESPN.

Lake Norman Fantasy Fishing Group Winner!
Congratulations to Mychal Boerman from CA, he was the 5th highest scoring member of my Bassin' Blog group for FLW Fantasy Fishing at the Lake Norman event. Our top 3 guys won some nice FLW prizes and the #4 guy never returned my emails. Sometimes it pays to pay attention!
Lake Norman Bass Fishing Sharks
Lake Norman Bass Fishing Sharks
Hey all, next week we need to finalize our fantasy fishing picks for both Lake Norman and Smith Mountain Lakes. I saw some cool date that BassFan.com provided about the guys that have excelled the last two years at Norman FLW events.Interestingly enough, there are 9 pros who finished inside the Top 30 at both the previous Norman events. Listed with their '07 and '08 finishes followed by average finish:
> Jim Moynagh -- 6th, 2nd (4th-place average)
> Greg Pugh -- 8th, 4th (6th-place average)
> Brent Ehrler -- 13th, 6th (10th-place average)
> Michael Bennett -- 7th, 18th (13th-place average)
> Andy Morgan -- 12th, 11th (17th-place average)
> Craig Powers -- 18th, 15th (17th-place average)
> Luke Clausen -- 22nd, 25th (24th-place average)
> David Dudley -- 24th, 28th (26th-place average)
> Tony Couch -- 28th, 30th (29th-place average)
For FLW, Top 10's are gold when it comes to Fantasy Fishing, so Jim Moynagh & Greg Pugh seem like no-brainers! Have a great weekend and look for a full analysis and my final picks for both tours early next week!
Setting a FLW Fantasy Fishing Lineup for Table Rock
One thing to know for sure, Table Rock will fish much different then Guntersville did, we are moving north so the water will be much cooler and from a lake with healthy vegetation to a lake that may have 4 to 5 strands of grass in the whole system. FLW has never fished Table Rock at the Stren Series or higher but many events on Lake of the Ozarks just up the road, so you may want to look to anglers that fair well there. You can also search through old BFL results, but most of those event happened in April or May. I would also say that guys that fair well on Beaver Lake, could also find Table Rock a comfortable place to fish.
Tru-Tungsten Jigs, Bass Fishing Seminars
Tru-Tungsten Jigs, Bass Fishing Seminars
Kind of a clearing house blog entry today. First of all, if you had read this blog much, you know I catch a ton of fish on Tru-Tungsten bass jigs. They are a great jig, have many advantages and really catch bass! Many people ask me where they can get them and often do not want to order them online. Many of us bass anglers like to touch & feel before we buy, kind of old fashioned in that respect. After working with Capra's Sporting Goods, they now stock the Tru-Tungsten Bass jigs, they have them out at their store in Blaine and they are priced very reasonably at $4.99, most places charge between $5.39 & $5.99. So when you are in the area, swing in and check them out, buy 1 or 2, I am positive you will not be disappointed with their performance.

Red River Fantasy Fishing Group Winner!
Congratulations to Jason Mayer from Indiana, he was the highest scoring member of my Bassin' Blog group for ESPN Fantasy Fishing.
Brief email interview with Jason and this is what he had to say on his strategy:
"Skeet and Bobby Lane is always at the top, Ike usually steps up for the big tourneys. Bill Lowen is a river god and he also fishes the same pool as I do on the Ohio. Just mostly went with my gut, every year Skeet and Ike are always on my team."
For Jason's efforts, he has won a 5/16oz Threadfin Shad Secret Weapon Lure Sidearm Spinnerbait and will get a 30% off promo code to order anything he wants in the Secret Weapon Armory!

Fantasy Fishing Results from Lake Guntersville
So here are the Top 10 results from my group after Guntersville, we will need to wait until the official overall standings come out, as I will award a prize to the top angler in the group who does not win an FLW prize. So we will need to see how Jeff and a couple other top guys in this group fair overall.

Alton Jones welcome to Bass Fishing Immortality
Alton Jones welcome to Bass Fishing Immortality
Winning the Bassmasters Classic is equal to instant Bass Fishing Immortality. I take my hat off to Alton for getting it down, because he had the guts to stick to his plan even when bites were slow to grind out a fairly decisive victory. Many other anglers may have chose to move or try a different pattern when it was slow, but he stuck to his Booyah Football Jig. So his great decision making, was actually deciding not to change!!!

Secret Weapon Sponsors National Bass Fishing Trail
Secret Weapon Sponsors National Bass Fishing Trail
Brentwood , TN , December 31, 2007 — Secret Weapon Lures today announced sponsorship of the National Bass Fishing Trail (NBT) for the 2008 tournament season.
"Secret Weapon is creating a sensation across the nation. Our rapid growth is coming from anglers who try our spinnerbaits and prove their value on the water—and then tell their buddies," says Joe Haubenreich, President of Secret Weapon. "We've seen our buzzbaits and spinnerbaits tied on the lines of the best adult anglers; now we want the next generation of great bass anglers to experience them as well. We approached NBT to help us do that."
The National Bass Fish Trail serves youth anglers as well as adults. Their unique format pits adult anglers against adults and youth angler against other youth, providing a truly level competition field for all ages.
According to Mike Raney, NBT president, "Our members like having an edge on the water, and Secret Weapon gives them that. NBT is competing also, but as a fast-growing bass tour our quest is for greater angler participation, sponsorship, and prominence in the sport fishing marketplace, Partnering with a high-performance, high-value tackle company like Secret Weapon gives us an edge, too, in achieving our goals."

World's Greatest Fishing Show
World's Greatest Fishing Show, So I have seen 3 or maybe 4 episodes of the World's Greatest Fishing Show with Mark Zona. So far, I think I like it. Is it the greatest every, not sure about that, but it is well above average thus far. The pictures of that 8lb smallie out of Eastern basin of Lake Eries were top notch. I really enjoyed the last episode with Bob Cobb, I grew up watching Bassmasters back when it was on The Nashville Network, brought back memories of my dad & I watching Bassmasters in the morning together. When Zona asked Cobb about his 3 top memorable moments, he nailed them.
1. Bitter's Lost Classic, where he dropped a keeper in and lost the classic by an ounce
2. Fritz Flip, where he fell in lake landing a bass
3. Nixon's monster bass on Harris Chain in Megabucks
Well, hats off to Zone for capturing those moments on TV this past weekend, it was a great show and it was great to watch ol' Cobb get that big smallie on that old rod!
Barbless Fishing Hook
Its refreshing to see something so pure after watching something as disgusting as what Luke Clausen did on Ultimate Match Fishing. I hope Kelly Jordan puts a whipping on Clausen like he just did to Anthony Gagliardi

MN Fishing Opener is Here
That means its time for me to head to WI and do some bass fishing. I can honestly say, I do not think I have ever fished in MN on the MN opener.....
Tomorrow Sport (fellow Gopher club member) & I are heading to Grantsburg, WI to spend a couple hours on each of two lakes that I have tournaments on May 19-20. I have fished both lakes before in club tournaments and have done well, but I feel the need to get over there and see what stage the lake is in so I can have a clue where to start come race day.
Should be fun, we are having great weather so I expect the fishing to be good. The two lakes are Big Wood Lake and Big & Little Trade lakes. I expect we will do a lot more driving around and looking rather then fishing.
Sunday, I plan to get my boat out on a local lake in Lakeville to make sure everything is firing on all cylinders I am chomping at the bit, because I have not been on the water since my trip to Amistad. I really intended to get our on the river this spring, but that has just not worked out.
Fishing Reels
Check back on Sunday or Monday for a report on my practice.

Clear Lake Rewrites the Bass Fishing Record Books
Man oh Man, the tournament that just concluded a few minutes ago was probably the greatest in B.A.S.S.'s long history. Skeet Reese trumped Preston Clark's record from last year with a giant 4 day total of 117-6! That was short lived fame, because the very next angler Steve Kennedy blew him out of the water with 122-14, nearly 7lbs heavier then what Clark could muster at Santee Cooper last April. Believe it or not, that is the 3rd time Kennedy has reached the century club in BASS tournaments! It was unbelievable watching it unfold on the live internet weigh-in. Kennedy averaged over a 6lb bass for 4 days straight and told stories of a 9lb Goliath that he had to turn loose today because it was hooked on the outside of the mouth, not too shabby for a guy that says he never threw a swimait before practice at Amistad in early March. It is borderline disturbing how good the bass fishing was this week at Clark Lake. G-man caught a great bag of 29-4 that was anchored by a 10-6 donkey, and you will get to see him go Ike next Saturday morning
Congrats to Greg Gutierrez who finished a respectable 3rd and got lost in Kennedy's heroics the past two days, after day 2 it looked like Greg may run away with this event like McClelland did last summer on Grand Lake. Gutierrez, Gerald Swindle, John Murray, Kelly Jordan & Paul Elias all topped the 100lb mark this week. And poor Peter T, missed the century club by ounces
Glenn Delong managed to bring 3 runts for 5-8 today and fell to 12, which reminds me of the guy I fished with at Amistad. I am actually stunned that he made the top 12 after what I saw when I fished with him, but maybe nerves got the best of him that first day at Amistad, tough to say.
It will be great to read Bassmaster.com BassFan.com & BassZone.com to see how all the guys caught them, from what I can gather swimbaits was a big part of most of these anglers' successes this week.Smallmouth Bass Fishing Lures

ESPN Fantasy Bass Fishing
Just a quick reminder, ESPN B.A.S.S. Fantasy Bass Fishing is set to open tomorrow online and the Super 6 game is fun too, besides I am better at that, finished 9th in the world there last year, opposed to the 4153 place finish in the regular fantasy fishing
Also, the deadline to get your roster set for the Lake Travis FLW event is nearing as well.

What does it take to win in Bass Fishing?
I found this article on the web today and just had to share it all with you. I could not agree more, you need to develop your own strengths and confidence techniques to take yourself to the next level.
Winning involves more than a secret spot or a magic lure
By Jay T. McNamara, Ph.D., L.P. - 08.Dec.2006
"The difference between good and great is very small, but it is made up of many things."
Readers of this column know I don't quote people very often. Telling you what Larry Nixon thinks or what Jim Moynagh says flies in the face of one of my most important performance-psychology principles: Learn to think for yourself.
However, these words provide the best answer I know to the question asked in the title of this month's column. I'm not sure if this an original quote, but since I heard it first from Rick Clunn, he gets the credit.

Gift Guide for a Bass Fishing Rube!

This entry has a two-fold purpose. Its a wish list for myself as my birthday and christmas is right around the corner and at the same time its serves as good reference for anyone shopping for the sportsman in their life.
#1. Good RainGear - I would like to get this in the Jacket and Bib, I found out the hard way down at Patoka that my raingear had outlived is usefulness.

Crystal Lake Fun Fishing
Wow, October 1st already and this is only my 3rd time on the water since April that was not practicing for or fishing a tournament. Basically John & I had a tough day on Medicine Lake the day before, so we thought we would go to Crystal for about 3-4 hours to rinse that from our mouths.
We got on the lake around 7:30am, I caught one on a light carolina rig using a Zoom Super Hog and a 1/8oz Tru-Tungsten Tungsten Sinker. I believe I had one or two other bites out on the bar. We then bounced into some docks, I lost a nice one on a jig and then caught a little peanut. We fished some pads in the large no wake bay, no bites but I saw some nice fish swimming around.
We then ran across the lake to fish some other docks, I got one decent keeper on my Tru-Tungsten Jig. We fished a bit longer, but that was the last fish we caught. Another tough morning on the lake.... Fall fishing can be a feast or famine kind of thing, the past two days have been a bit more famine
I will spending the next couple weekends at home getting stuff done, preparing for the trip to Patoka.

Stren Series Fish Kill
In a recent tournament held out of La Crosse, WI on the Mississippi River, there was an unusually large delayed mortality from the tournament fish. It is unclear from the stories that I have read on excatly how the fish were handled and if there were any other factors that could have magnified the problem.
The main thing, is not to jump to conlcusions until we get all the facts. A similar study was conducted last year and the way the fish were held for the study was thought to have created eronious results. My early thoughts is that these largemouth bass, many of them probably carrying the LMBV, were over stressed in combination of the tournament proccess and the holding of them in areas with improper current flow.

Buy Bass Tackle Online with a Twist
If you find yourself looking for hard to find baits on line and not having much luck or do not like the high price tags on some of your favorite Japanese baits, its time to try eBay. There are a bunch of chatterbaits listed in auctions right now. Lucky Craft, Jackall, Daiwa and more!
You can find your favorite discontinued baits, fishing lines, reels & gear all in one place. I have bought several Lucky Craft Sammys & Pointers , Daiwa TD Vibrations and other expensive baits for up to 50% off of retail prices. I have a buddy who loves the old fluorescent green Trilene line, but they do not make it anymore. He was able to find several bulk spools for pennies on the dollar on eBay.
My greatest eBay finds have been some unique Shimano Scorpion reels from Japan. They are ultra high quality, plus they have a uniqueness that is something cool that the rest of your fishing buddies will envy.
It must be noted, that not everything lure or reel for sale will be a great discount, you need to bid smartly and keep at it, eventually you will find a few gems that slip through the cracks. While this can be challenging and time consuming, it can add to the thrill, its kind of like hunting for cool baits online. So go to eBay.com, give it a whirl, all you need is an email to get started and it costs nothing unless you win. Its also a good way to turn some of your old fishing stuff into cash so that you can buy more new stuff.Northern Pike Fishing Lures
