Review Of Shimano Calcutta 400 Fishing Reel

This beauty from Shimano was always destined to be a class topper. This reel is equally at home in either freshwater or salwater. You will find all of the features you could hope for in a quality baitcaster. Using the Shimano Calcutta TE 400 reel it is easy for almost anyone to cast like a pro. If features are what you are looking for then this product will not disappoint.

Aside from good looks you get plenty of spool capacity with a leverwind to make the most of it and a powerful drag system that is easy to finely adjust. While the reel is fairly light at only 12 ounces it certainly does not lack grunt.

What every keen fisherman wants to know is how good is the Shimano Calcutta 400 out on the water. Well that is where it really begins to impress. This rig takes all the hassle out of casting. The action is so smooth and effortless. With a little practice you can consistently cast thirty-five to forty yards. The rod I was using was a Shimano Crucial 7.6 ft which worked well.

Its when you first hook a decent fish that you realise how much grunt this rod has. Any fish taking the bait is soon outmatched by performance of the Shimano FE400. A nice feature of the reel are the oversized knobs that even big hands can get a firm grip on. The power you have on tap means you can catch fighting fish weighing up to 50 lbs.

These reels are made to last and this is were you really get your value for money. This reel is built to last with excellent finish quality and durable seals so that it’s well protected inside and out. A special anti-rusting material has been used for the bearings in the Shimano Calcutta reels so that even if a little moisture gets in they still won’t rust up.

Another nice feature is the addition of an audible clicker to sound the alert when a big fish takes the bait. This is nicely placed for easy access but its not in your way.

Overall the Calcutta TE is a superb piece of equipment that is unlikely to fail in action.
