Having your hook set properly can mean the difference between catching your dream fish and losing it. The bait you use and the style of hook you use will determine how to set your hook properly. This article will talk about the most common ways to set your hook to catch your dream fish.
Snap-set:
The most popular way of setting your hook, it is ideal for single hook fishing. The best times to use the snap-set are when you are bobbing or jig fishing. To perform the snap-set, first drop your rod tip when you detect a strike. Reel up any slack on your line and quickly snap the rod upward.
Sweep-set:
When you are using multiple hooks or bait with a treble the sweep-set is ideal. Another time to use the sweep-set is when you are fishing with a slip-sinker or Carolina rig. The power is then used to lift the weight off the bottom and not transferred to the hook. To perform the sweep-set, when you feel a fish strikes your bait, sweep your rod away from the fish and keep and steady pressure on the line. Reel at a pace to keep any slack from forming.

Snagging a largemouth bass in any situation
Largemouth bass can be found basically anywhere. They are a very adaptable fish as well as a feisty eater. It takes a certain kind of fisher to be able to draw them out in any condition and this article will go over some of the best tips and tricks to become an excellent largemouth bass fisher.
Fishing for suspended bass
Finding suspended bass is easy catching them is a whole different matter. Often with a depth finder, you can find bass suspending far above bottom. Usually if bass are suspend in open waters at a depth of about 20 feet there is no point in trying to catch them because they are not actively feeding.
If a bass is suspended near some kind of cover they are a lot easier to catch. You can catch them fairly easily by jigging vertically along a sheer cliff or in flooded timber. Use a jigging spoon, vibrating blade or tailspin close to suspended timber and drop the lure into the water. Jig vertically and try to work the upper branches first. Drop the lure continuously until you reach bottom then retrieve it and continue the process.
You will often find bass suspending under schools of panfish in open water. Panfish will swim to a depth of five to 10 feet and bass will suspend several feet below them. Panfish will dimple the surface of the water when they feed on insects on a calm morning or evening. If you see a swirl of a bass grabbing a panfish, try to draw bass out with a topwater lure. Create a disturbance in the water by walking the lure across the surface and keep the lure moving while trying to cover as much distance as possible. You can also use the countdown method that is casting your lure and counting down as it sinks. Begin your retrieve at different intervals until you catch a bass. Once you know where the bass are you can use that countdown to wait until they strike.

Jig Fishing Lure
1
Accept the fact that something fluttering up and down stimulates the "strike" option in a game fish's brain more than something fluttering through the water parallel with the bottom. The fish thinks both types of erratic movement is that of wounded or crippled bait, but something fluttering up and down is more crippled and the easiest meal.
2
Use a long pole for jigging. If you are in deep water jigging straight up and down, the further you get the lure away from the boat's bottom silhouette, the less wary the fish are. If you are on a stationary pier, it doesn't matter. Make the up and down movement as erratic as possible by using the lightest possible weight, if any, to keep the jig going up and down.

Best Fishing Lures
Best Fishing Lures, These lures might not be the latest and greatest, and they don't have all the bells and whistles of some of the most recent products, but their fish catching ability cannot be denied. Most of them were amazing innovations in lure design when they were invented, and all of them have stood the test of time by catching countless fish for anglers every year. Every angler should have at least one of each of these in their tackle box.
Dardevle
The Dardevle is a lure that has come to be an icon of fishing in the North. This spoon was originally released in 1912 as the Osprey, but the name was changed to Dardevle in 1918. It is a versatile spoon that can be used for a variety of species, but is especially popular for northern pike.Fishing Lures Tackle

Jigging for albacore tuna in Mexico, California, Oregon or Washington has become a favorite fishery among tuna anglers from across the country. During summer and fall months albacore tuna migrate with warm waters to within striking range of sport boats and charter boats along the West Coast. While some anglers love using live bait for albacore tuna, live bait is not always available or practical. Oregon and Washington tuna anglers have learned how to catch plenty of albacore tuna with tuna jigs purchased at our Tuna Tackle online store.
Tuna jigs are one of the most productive tuna lures to catch all varieties of tuna as well as any other sport fish in the area you are tuna fishing. At Tuna Fishing Lures we have selected the very best tuna jigs from Point Wilson Dart company, Stinger Jigs, Deep Stinger and Dungeness Stinger. We also like using squids, especially for trolling. Our FAT Squid works especially well for tuna while fishing for tuna at night. The FAT Squid has a battery-operated LED light stick that fits inside and lights the tuna squid lure from the inside out, making the FAT Squid a favorite lure of tuna at night.

However, while many anglers insist that color is an important factor, it actually is not. There are a few other details that must be taken into account first.
In fact, even cost should not come into play as much as you might think. What is more important than both the cost and the color of large game and deep sea fishing lures is balance, weight and craftsmanship. All three of these factors can quickly and easily be observed immediately within the tackle or bait shop.
If the lure you are considering looks to be cheaply made with little attention to detail, then chances are that it will not perform as it should. When it comes to prices and lures, you will certainly get what you pay for.

Here's a slip bobber technique that has proven extremely successful for our guide service when fishing Alaska rivers for king and silver salmon. For best results we anchor a boat above a long straight run of consistent depth water. Next we rig and adjust slip bobbers so they suspend salmon eggs (roe) inches above the river bottom. In slower and shallower water salmon eggs can be fished without weight, while in deeper or quicker runs a few split shot helps keep the bait near bottom. After positioning the boat and adjusting our bobber rigs we simply drop the floats and bait behind the boat and let the current drift them through the run. It is important to keep the bobber drifting freely with the current, while fishing, because if the reel is engaged the bobber drags, and current will kick the bait up, near the surface, and away from the primary salmon catching zone.
Fishing Lure Parts

Spoons - these lures are thin rounded pieces of metal without a handle. They flash brightly in the water to imitate a fleeing or distressed baitfish. Spinners - There are many fishing lure parts to the spinner, from the base or the eye which is a thin wire shaft with a loop in the front, where the fishing line is tied; a large loop at the rear holds the hook. Some spinners use a skirt of squirrel tail hair. The shaft features a body of colored beads, small rings and metal cylinders to provide weight and attraction. Above the body is a clevis with a wire passing through it, with the spinner blade, shaped like a spoon attached via a hole in the clevis.

One of them is Rapala fishing lure, it is not on sell in amazon, because it was assembled in Finland and they stopped producing it year ago..
What makes this lure special is that it has a very weird game , probably the weirdest game you ever seen, but it is very effective if there is a lot of weed in lake.It has only 1 hooks, so lot of fishes will just go away.My largest fish with this lure is 13 pounds(6.1kg) pike.I wouldn't say that i have got lot of big pikes with this lure, but i can say that this lure is more of bass fishing lure.I haven't caught any trout´s with it.But i must say that RapalaMinnow Spoon is one of the best weedless lures,

Natural Materials
If you've ever read the back of a Rapala fishing lure box, you know the story. The first Rapalas were hand-whittled by a fisherman so that he could troll with a hand line while waiting for his nets to fill. While it's a good story, wood is actually one of the more difficult natural materials to work with when making your own fishing lures.
You need to be a skilled woodcarver to make an attractive wooden lure. And even if you carve a great, lifelike wooden minnow, wood's buoyancy makes fishing at any significant depth with a wood lure difficult. Furthermore, wood lures will rot after a season or two unless they're expertly sealed and painted.

Crawfish
Perfect for those bottom feeding fish, Storm saltwater fishing lures that mimic and feel like the real crawfish in the area are ideal for fishing grouper. The slow decent of these lures is mesmerizing to the fish and often results in strikes before the lure hits the bottom. The softer outer texture ensures that the fish will take the lure into its mouth and allow the hook to be set.
Minnows
Most of the Storm saltwater fishing lures feature the holographic eye spot, which often will trigger aggressively feeding fish to strike. The Kickin' Minnow actually has a sectioned tail that provides a dramatic and authentic movement of the tail when it is being retrieved through the water. The weighted head and lip give the minnow a naturally downward diving motion that closely matches the movement of the baitfish. They are available in four, six and ten inches lengths for fishing for a variety of species. The colors on the Kickin' Minnows range from purple through to shad coloring and even bright greens and oranges.

In this article I'm going to list the best lures for bass fishing. The lures are being listed in no particular order as it would be impossible to say that one bass fishing lure is the "most effective". All
of these lures are effective for bass fishing and if any of them aren't a part of your bass fishing repertoire, they should be. These lures are definitely the best lures for bass fishing.
When I use the term 'bass fishing' I'm referring mainly to the twp most popular species of bass, large and small mouth bass. All of the bass fishing lures listed in this article can be used for both species. The key is to use smaller versions of whichever lure you choose when fishing for smallmouth bass. Smallmouth bass obviously have smaller mouths and therefore eat smaller prey than their large mouthed cousins.
Here are the lures that every bass fisherman should have access to:
Plastic Worms & Grubs - Plastic worms have long been known as a great lure for fishing. Plastic worms can be rigged in a variety of manners such as the Carolina rig and the Texas rig. Plastic worms are most effective for largemouth bass. Plastic grubs are normally rigged on a lead head jig. Grubs are normally thought of as smallmouth bass bait. A great breakthrough in the plastic grub and worm market are Berkley's Gulp and Power products. These products are just like the plastics that you're used to except for the fact that the have been impregnated with fish attractants. Gulp grubs and worms are extremely effective lures for bass fishing.

Walleye live bait:Great Fishing For Walleye Tips!
Walleye live bait |
There are many walleye live baits that work well, but the best The best baits for walleye include minnows and other small fish, night crawlers and leeches. At different times of the in very unique walleye habitat situations there are some other live baits for walleye, such as water dogs and frogs that will produce walleye.
Many of the live baits used for walleye fishing are not available throughout the year. For example leeches cannot be caught if the temperature of the water is below 50degrees because they are not active yet and will not swim into the leech traps. It will be hard to find a bait shop in the summer that will carry shiner minnows because it is so hard to keep them alive in the summer months in the bait dealer’s tanks and in the anglers minnow bucket.
Important Requirement Of Bass Fishing
Bass fishing is similar to any other kind of fishing. The object is to catch fish using a fishing rod. In bass fishing, there are different kinds of equipment which may be specifically for bass fishing use only. Bass fishing tips are necessary to help the bass fishing beginner get his bearings.
Rods And Reels Used In Bass Fishing
Fisherman decides the length of the rod in bass fishing. It is true that the longer the length of the rod the more sensitive it is but there is a limit to how long a rod can be. A longer rod can also be a killer when it comes to casting which can turn out to be too difficult with that much length. Choose a rod that is comfortable to cast since the longer it is the better your cast should be but if you already have some difficulty casting a long rod then forget it. Shorter rods are supposed to easier to handle but may be difficult to get a good cast out of.
Reels help in bass fishing because of its various forms and purposes. For bass fishing, the reels can come in several types. Newer versions of a bass fishing reel come with a braking system that can slow the turn of the spool as you cast making it easier. Bait casting style reels are usually the ones used for bass fishing. These types of reels are ideal because they have plenty of ball bearings to make the spin smoother. The more bearing there are the more expensive a reel may be.

Fishing Lures
Fishing lures are mostly used in recreational fishing. They consist of objects attached at the end of the line and they are designed to look like the prey of the fish that you want to catch. Color, vibration, movement and shape, all influence the capture as such. Without the fishing lures attached to the lines, the bait could remain invisible for the fish. All fishing lures have a hook on the end for the attaching of the bait. Once the fishing lures play their part, the fish gets hooked.
Lures can also help fishermen look for and actually find the places where fish may be hiding. This is done by casting and retrieving the lures progressively, and such movements make the lures appear to be swimming. The movement of the lure will also make light reflect and thus attract the attention of the fish.
Fishing lures fall into several categories depending on the design and the purpose they serve. The jig as a first mention consists of a a sharp lead hook onto which we attach the natural or artificial bait. This is usually shaped like a minnow, worm or crawfish. Another category consists of the surface fishing lures that got their names because they are lighter than the jigs and therefore meant to float on the water and look like surface prey. The spoon lures are also for surface fishing; their shiny thin surface attracts the attention of the fish that mistake them for spawn.

Alaska definitely rings a bell when talking about salmon fishing, and amateur as well as professional fishermen know how rewarding the cold rivers of these lands can be when looking for salmon. Alaska remains a famous salmon habitat and the right place organize the best fishing expedition ever, all to enjoy the beauty of these kings of fish. Not only the activity in itself proves very interesting, but fishermen often acquire very solid knowledge about the salmon subspecies, their role in the river food chain, their unique breeding habits and the like.
Heavy criticism has been directed towards salmon fishing together with accusations of endangering species by over-fishing for mercantile purposes. The subject is still under debate some states salmon fishing is prohibited by law particularly during the mating season. The Internet offers more details on the elements that ruin good salmon fishing or on the contrary increase the chances of success in the best of conditions for the fish and their habitat. Many online reviewers, who are convinced fishing hobbyists, feel the need to share their experiences with other fellow-fishermen who haven’t tried salmon fishing, and from such sources a good deal of things can be learned by the less experienced in the field.

The king salmon peoples the rivers of Alaska traveling a long way from marine natural habitat in search of still pure waters to lay its eggs. The king salmon shares the same routes with another silver variety, and even if there is a difference in the appearance and the size of the subspecies, they present common features. They will surely give you the excitement of a unique salmon fishing experience. You can fish the king salmon all year round in both fresh and salt water. Although the red salmon can be found in both types of water, in some areas these fish spend all of their lives in rivers only; Besides this peculiarity, they also distinguish themselves by the smaller size.

Saltwater salmon fishing is best done by trolling or angling a baited line and drawing it into the water, usually at the rear of the boat. Cloudy days create the best of conditions for salmon fishing, since on too bright moments, these creatures will keep their abodes. Anyway, reviews and popular opinion indicate Alaska as the right place to go salmon fishing, but there could be other places more convenient from the perspective of the travel distance that you may want to try. Good luck!

Good luck!

Redfish Fly Fishing
Redfish Fly Fishing
In this article I want to share with you the best redfish fishing techniques and tips, but I want to also explain what the redfish actually is for the beginners.
First of all, let’s introduce ourselves to the topic of redfish fishing. What is refish and where you can find them? Red drum, also known as redfish, is a salt water fish which can be found along the coast of the southern USA. The black spot on their tails is key to recognizing redfish. Redfish inhabit shallow bays and esturaries, targeting crustaceans and baitfish. As a recreational fish they are priced very highly. People who are after these fish are called redfish anglers. Redfish anglers always take part in national tournaments that are similar to freshwater bass fishing events. There are tournaments in redfish fishing all over the gulf coast. I saw my first one on TV one Sunday morning and that was a first time I heard about redfish fishing..
For me redfish fishing is a whole world. Unfortunately, I don’t live in the south of USA, but I go there every year just for redfish fishing. I always bring my whole family with me and it is wonderful event. It is now our traditional family event. We all love it, because it’s both healthy, you are on a fresh air all day, and fun and it brings family together.
Ok, let’s move on to the refish fishing techniques. Red drum or redfish can be caught in many ways. Probably the most widely utilized technique for fishing redfish is to anchor along a channel edge or shoal and bottom fish with cut peeler crab bait or other baits including, squid, cut spot, live spot and even chicken breast soaked in peeler crab oil. These are all excellent redfish fishing techniques.
In the Virginia, in areas like Pocomoke and Tangier Sounds, anglers usually look for a somewhat sharp drop and anchor so that the boat lies on the slope of the channel. This depth is only a starting point and can vary greatly.
Many anglers prefer to fish a window of opportunity that includes the last 2 hours of the incoming current and the first 2 hours of the outgoing. The fishing is more likely to be really good if it coincides with dusk.
Other techniques for catching Virginia and Chesapeake Bay redfish include trolling large spoons in the lower bay areas.
Surf fishing is a popular way to catch Virginia redfish. Along the Atlantic beaches and around Virginia barrier islands, anglers use a fish finder or other rig and fish with baits such as whole spot, spot fillets or heads, mullet, bluefish fillets, crabs, shrimp or other baits. There are numerous methods in redfish fishing.
I hope you liked this introductory article to the world of redfish fishing and you will join our ever growing community. Believe me, you will really enjoy it. I recommend you to have a look at these amazing secret redfish fishing techniques. These are the top techniques used by the pros now available to you. I’ve seen them and they are really cool. A Greenhorn’s Guide For Purchasing Ice Fishing Gear
Purchasing Ice Fishing Gear |
Fishing through the ice is Winter activity that the whole family can enjoy. Unlike other Winter sports, it’s cheap to get outfitted and with knowledge of where to find a place to fish, a Newbie can have an excellent chance at success their first trip onto the ice.
But what’s required to begin ice fishing? One has a lot of choices when choosing fishing supplies on the market now, a person can easily spend hundreds of their hard earned money on ice fishing equipment and still wonder if they have all they need.
This is why I wrote this collection of basic ice fishing tackle that a Newbie will need to begin. What’s even better is that for what it cost to fill a F-250 up with diesel, you could purchase all the fishing gear that a Greenhorn will need to begin fishing on the hard water.
To begin with, you will need to buy an ice auger to bore holes in the hard water. For Beginners, I’d want a five, possibly even a 6 inch auger meant for ice fishing for panfish like Perch, Bluegill and Crappie. For bigger fish like Walleye, Pike or Channel Catfish, then I’d get a eight or ten inch auger meant for ice fishing. You have two choices, power augers or the manual augers. It’s no secret that the manual augers are less expensive but need more effort to drill a hole. You will also need a scoop to keep the ice chips out of the hole you’re fishing.
Tip ups and rods. Many ice fishermen bore a bunch of holes over weed beds and other structure and use tip ups to increase their chances of catching fish. Other fishermen prefer to ice fish with a ice rod rather than tip ups. I’d get a few tip ups along with a good rod so you can see which tactic you like for catching fish.Aberdeen Fishing Hooks
Fishing Is Fun
Angling can be one of the activities that can help bring your family together. Angling has no age limits and everyone has an enjoyable time! It can be a way to bond the generation gap in the family and a way to explain to the youth about water safety, conservation and the environment.
One needs to have a boat to go salt water fishing. But it’s not imperative to own a boat to go salt water fishing. There are salt water fishing trips called Charter trips and these charters usually provide you with all the equipment you need to go salt water fishing and so you don’t need to worry even if your child does not have fishing gear of his/her own. These boats also have cabins, so those who don’t like fishing can sit back, relax and enjoy the beauty of the water. You can either bring with you a lunch or you can prepare and grill your fish!
It’s imperative to teach the little ones about the importance of being safe while fishing. Although there are chances that you get poked by a hook, deep sea angling means you have to be far away from the land, so make sure that everyone wears a lifejacket on board. Wearing whistles is also a good idea, just in case you happen to fall overboard. Before leaving shore teach the kids basics of water safety so that everyone is safe while fishing.

The Challenges of Saltwater Sport Fishing
If compared to commercial fishing, saltwater sport fishing falls in the category of hobbies that put very little pressure on the environment: this is an activity that demands nothing for the fun it gives in return. The sheer leisure pursuit, this is the main trait of sport fishing, as it has nothing to do with profit or survival issues.
The most basic of saltwater sport fishing form requires nothing else but lots of hooks, a rod, a line and a reel. Of course, there are other additional devices, called terminal tackle, that people use so as to alter or complete the way the bait attracts fish. Among the terminal tackle items used in both commercial and sport fishing, floats, swivels and weights should be mentioned first. Sometimes, instead of baits fishermen rely on different types of lures, from artificial flies to plastic worms and other hand-crafted items that make fishing a lot more rewarding.
Though a male occupation first and foremost, sport fishing has left room enough for women too. Some hobbyists are disatisfied with the way some issues are dealt with in the fishing circles and the big paradox refers to the lack of apparent purpose for the sport. What’s the point of fishing if you eventually release the catch anyway? And yet, this is the very purpose of sport fishing. Relaxation and fun define a sport that can be easily defined as a catch-release game.Weedless Fishing Hooks

Using Saltwater Fishing Gear
Fishing as an occupation varies in terms of features according to two main elements: the type of fish and the water environment properties. Adaptation to the fishing needs becomes obvious in the diversity of gear necessary for the activity. In time saltwater fishing gear and techniques have made a huge progress requiring adaptation for one activity sector or another particularly when since the preeminence of fishing for commercial purposes. Therefore, to comply with market demands and ever larger needs, saltwater fishing is widely performed in the entire planetary ocean as well as on internal seas.
The variety of salt water fish species only calls for an increased variety of the tackle.
